This course presents valuable information and updates for emergency physicians, billing and coding professionals, and group managers. Three tracks are offered: Professional Coding (Basic & Advanced), Facility Coding, and Physician/Administrative. Lunch offers unstructured time to interact with peers and to share information about the dynamic reimbursement environment.
PROFESSIONAL CODING TRACKS
Basic: Participants will learn fundamentals of CPT and ICD-9 coding for the professional aspect of emergency medical care, and then have the opportunity to apply this knowledge through discussion of actual ED cases.
Advanced: Participants will have the opportunity to review the appropriate use of CPT and ICD-9 codes for professional services provided in the ED. Included will be a discussion of updates for 2013, PQRI, Observation, & Ultrasound coding updates.
FACILITY CODING TRACK
Participants will review the unique aspects of facility coding for emergency services provided to non-admitted patients. Included will be discussions of the differences between processes for commercial and government payers, with a focus on APC’s and appropriate assignment of visit levels.
Participants will review documentation requirements for various EM services; learn about how upcoming Healthcare Reform will impact your practice; review opportunities for groups to better understand & interact with carriers, and be given tools to better assess their group’s billing and collection performance.
