Caral Edelberg, CPC, CPMA, CCS-P, CHC, CAC utilizes her broad industry knowledge and decades in the industry to provide strategic insight and guidance for the growth and expansion of Edelberg & Associates. Caral’s expertise and guidance can be seen and felt in all aspects of the company. From our industry-leading business intelligence platform to our proprietary coding and compliance toolkits, Caral guides and ensure the company’s focus is squarely placed on reducing risk and increasing value for the healthcare entities we serve.
Caral is an active member of many professional organizations and has served on the National Advisory Board for the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC); is past President of the Baton Rouge chapter of the AAPC and long-term member of the Coding and Nomenclature Advisory Committee of the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP). Caral was honored with Honorary Membership in the American College of Emergency Physicians for her work in coding and reimbursement on behalf of the specialty of emergency medicine.
She is a frequent author and speaker on healthcare management topics including outpatient facility coding and billing, hospitalist medicine, medical record documentation policies, healthcare compliance, effective communication within healthcare systems, specialized coding compliance training for physicians and residents, COBRA/EMTALA and CPT/ICD-9 coding and billing. Caral also co-authored the Emergency Medicine Study Guide and Emergency Medicine Specialty Examination for the Advanced Board of Medical Coding (ABMC); authored the Emergency Medicine Study Guide and Emergency Medicine Competency Examination published for Ingenix/AAPC; and co-authored the current Emergency Medicine Study Guide and Competency Examination for the AAPC. She is the past consulting editor and currently serves on the editorial advisory committee of ED (Emergency Department) Coding Alert. She serves on the editorial advisory boards of ED Management (for whom she publishes a quarterly ED coding column), OPPS Insider, and APC Advisor.
Chief Executive Officer
Michael brings over 15 years of successful operational and practice management experience to Edelberg & Associates. Michael’s expertise spans multiple specialties including ED, Hospitalist Medicine, EMS, and Radiology. Michael’s previous executive management experience included oversight of the Hospital Medicine division for a large national company. His extensive experience in the development, implementation, and monitoring of quality improvement programs allows Edelberg & Associates to deliver on our dual promise of risk reduction and value enhancement for the healthcare entities we serve, which is critical to the success of today’s Hospital Medicine practice.
Michael brings extensive knowledge of “best practice” in development and implementation of the strategic plans, visions, goals and objectives, standards of performance, policies, and procedures and organizational structure for client physician groups. Compliance is critical to the success of any practice in today’s healthcare environment and an essential building block for success.
His experience in development of corporate compliance programs for Hospital Medicine provides a strong background in both compliance and management of compliance efforts – a unique and essential component of ECA’s success. Michael is a hands-on consultant.
Once programs are up and functioning, Michael develops, implements, and coordinates information systems for practice, managed care plan management, and facilities to ensure full network system integration. Michael has experience from the ground up where he began with individual practice management activities and earned his experience in operations for all aspects hospital medicine practices. Michael understands the importance of developing services for revenue enhancement, marketing of practices and practice operations – and the collaboration with the physicians responsible for success. His successful liaison activities between physician practice and client facilities ensure achievement of strategic goals – Goals which he can design, implement and monitor for any size practice. The importance of development, implementation, and coordination of information systems for practice, managed care plan management, and facilities are critical to ensuring success with network system integration and Michael has an extensive and successful track record that lends itself perfectly to his performance as a consultant to client practices.
W. Alden Cartwright
Alden Cartwright, President has been with E+A for over four years. Over his tenure at E+A, Alden has been an integral part in the growth of E+A and ensuring the success and happiness of all of our Clients. Alden’s focus on team building and strategic partnerships with E+A clients has resulted in forging solid relationships and building processes that assure the success of each E+A endeavor. Alden ensures the success of our client’s and works and reports directly to Caral Edelberg to ensure her vision is expressed in all areas of E+A. Alden currently resides with his wife and daughter in Mandeville, Louisiana.
Alden is also an active member of the Forbes Business Council and is continually contributing to find better solutions in a multitude of industries and companies. Chief Financial Officer
Betty Bray, Chief Financial Officer, has over 40 years of corporate finance experience and brings with her a wealth of knowledge in corporate finance, accounting, managing financial and IT systems and working with both small and large companies to ensure accurate and streamlined financial processes are being met and company goals and milestones are being achieved.
During her previous employment she has worked as Chief Financial Officer, Professional Services and Product Manager in the field of IT, Controller and Credit Manager. As Chief Financial Officer, Betty works closely with other members of Edelberg leadership to ensure smooth company operations and long-term company financial health.
Cheri Klein, CPC, CPCO
Vice President, Compliance
Cheri Klein, Vice President of Compliance, brings over 35 years in the healthcare and coding/auditing industries including dentistry, biotechnology, emergency medicine, free-standing emergency medicine, critical care, NICU, inpatient pediatrics, urgent care, family practice, hospital outpatient services and other subspecialties. She is an AAPC certified coder and ICD-10 certified including specialty of emergency medicine. Cheri conducts and monitors quality assurance coder coding reviews ensuring standards are met or exceeded and maintained according to CPT, ICD-10, CMS and payor specifics. She also monitors client and provider acuity distributions as well as documentation deficiency trends and conducts audits according to trends. Cheri manages external audit projects working closely with clients on audits including coding, compliance, due diligence, and other types of audits such as payor denials and appeals submissions. Cheri works closely with the coding, compliance and education departments recommending coder, client and provider education opportunities and to ensure quality in all areas of coding and compliance are met, exceeded and maintained.
Tawnya Bath, CPC
Vice President, Operations
Tawnya Bath, Vice President of Operations bring over 25 years of experience in the healthcare and coding/auditing industries including experience in the long-term care, emergency medicine, free-standing emergency medicine, critical care, Cardiac Surgery, inpatient, ambulatory surgery, urgent care, family practice, hospital outpatient services and many other subspecialties. Tawnya focuses on client satisfaction and deliverables. She is an AAPC certified coder. Tawnya works closely with the IT, client services, coding, compliance, and education department while conducting new client onboarding and managing all clients served by Edelberg + Associates. Tawnya leads and develops client service teams to ensure compliance, accuracy, and client focused reporting is complete and aligns with client initiatives. Tawnya monitors client and provider acuity distributions as well as documentation deficiency trends and other key metrics.
